The 1882 pullover shirt was an attempt to get back to the old style shirts after the 1881 open front shirts and being reported in the field with general favour with the introduction of two front pockets and rubber buttons and branch of service piping around the collar, cuffs and pockets
Between 1866 and 1886 regulations stated that chevrons would only be worn on dress coats and fatigue coats only and never on shirt sleeves
Can also ben made in wool for the authentic reenactor.

In April 1883 the modified over shirt was issued to troops in the field but with the lack of branch of service on the collar, cuffs and pocket this was part of the governments drive to abolish all piping from uniforms in the cost cutting effort.
