M1874 Pistol Cartridge Box Conversion
In 1874 a new pistol cartridge box Dyer Pouch was put before the Equipment Board but never saw production in great numbers.
The standard percussion cap pouch was to become the new cartridge box by modifying the inside to take the 44-45cal metallic cartridges and the flap was embossed with the U S block letters in an oval border, making the oblong civil war era cartridge box obsolete.
