Jefferson Davis Boot (The gentleman’s boot)

In 1801 a new boot was made for Jefferson Davis which he had worn to his inauguration, this in fact was a modified brogan shoe with high ankle sides and laces smooth side out, it was thought he would set a new trend for the republicans by sweeping away silk laces and fancy buckles, the Jeff boot had been born with leather sole and uppers being smooth side out this new boot had become a fashion and become known as the Jefferson boot.

Also used as a Parade boot for the Indian Wars from 1872 onwards.

Later this style being adopted by the Federal army in 1851
