Naval Exchange Vending Token 1896 – Reproduction

These Tokens are reproductions of ones from Sangley Point Navy Base 1896

The background Origins of these started because of when on board stores were established, sailors aboard US Navy ships traded with gunboats,  small vessels selling just about everything out of ports and were quite often overpriced.

In 1896 the first non-regulation canteen was established aboard the USS Indiana selling beer, with paymasters often forgetting to pay canteens… the vending token was born.

We have 19 of these tokens made of alloy and you will be purchasing them as a job lot.

Another item we have rarely come across reproduced.
